Crafted on the banks of the Kispiox River, one of the worlds premier steelhead streams, Riverwatch bamboo fly rods are designed and tested by fisherman for fisherman. Our rods are a continuation of the tradition of the great rod builders of yesteryear. We use some of their time tested methods and some of our new thoughts and procedures to build the finest fishing and casting rods we can. It’s an ongoing evolution, correcting through fishing to come up with the answers, we always hope to find “Excalibur”, the perfect rod.
In the past number of years our main focus has been to build a bamboo spey rod that is a durable, lightweight and a beautiful casting instrument. We wanted it not only to cast traditional floating lines but also be able to handle the new modern sink tip lines. Building upon the hollowing techniques of E.C. Powell, we reduced the weight substantially. For durability and casting smoothness we settled on a modified spliced ferrule design, the only design, by the way that could take the rigors of the torque brought on by speycasting. In other words, not break at the ferrule.
We also build a wide variety of custom single handed rods in just about every line size and length. These rods are built upon the best tapers of days gone by and modified through hollowing to produce a truly great casting rod. What’s a great casting rod? I believe it’s a rod that can deliver a line without much effort and a great deal of accuracy. It’s a rod that’s beautiful durable and light. A pleasure to own and use.
